Reverting station for compatibility

In Niagara 4.15, encrypting the hashed user password adds a password encoder that did not exist in in earlier Niagara versions. As a result, a station that has been run in Niagara 4.15 is not able to run in an earlier version of Niagara. The following section provides a recovery option that allows you revert the station to make it compatible with Niagara versions prior to Niagara 4.15. This is useful in the event that you do not have a proper backup of your station.

Note: Ensure that the .bog file is protected by an external key (system passphrase OR custom passphrase) rather than a key ring. A station running on a platform is protected by a key ring. On a station copy to the local device, it is protected with the system passphrase or the custom passphrase set during station copy.
  1. In Workbench, open the Bog File Protection tool.

  2. To unlock the .bog file, select the Enter the file's passphrase option, entering the correct passphrase and click Update.
If the operation was successful, a green "Passphrase accepted" message will be displayed.

  3. Once the .bog file is unlocked, select Revert station to be compatible with releases prior to 4.15, and click Update.
If the operation was successful, a green "Station reversion successful" message will be displayed.

You can now run the station in a version prior to Niagara 4.15.
    Note:
    • This tool only performs the reversion of passwords. If the station may experience other issues, such as components that exist in Niagara 4.15 but not in earlier versions, you must manually edit them in the BOG file.

    • This tool removes encryption from user passphrases and should only be used in a recovery scenario.
